Relief Society Lesson Recap-July 21, 2013
This week’s lesson was given by Sister Heather Saunders it was taken from the Teaching of Presidents of the Church Manual-Lorenzo Snow Chapter 14-“With God All Things Are Possible.”
President Lorenzo often taught "We have to exert ourselves. … Remaining idle without putting ourselves into action is of no use." He continually taught that our own exertions would never be enough without the grace of God.
President Snow had a great confidence in the Lord and shared his experience of travelling on a 42-day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean to England where he was to serve a mission. He said they had "terrible storms- storms which those accustomed to the ocean pronounced very dangerous." He noticed how different the people reacted that didn't have their trust in God where he had all of his trust in God and knew that he would be kept safe. Having the gospel in our lives gives us a great foundation that God is here to help us as we do all that we can do and ask Him for help.
With God's help anything is possible. We need to stay strong in our trials, for they are going to come, but having trust in Him that he will lead the way will make all the difference in going through any hard time. We must be constantly asking him for help and guidance throughout each day.
"A man’s mind should be single to the glory of God in everything that he starts to accomplish. We should consider that of ourselves we can do nothing. We are the children of God. We are in darkness, [unless] God enlightens our understanding. We are powerless, [unless] God helps us. The work that we have to do here is of that nature that we cannot do it unless we have the assistance of the Almighty."
Let us not forget to include God all that we do, Even if we are afraid of the answer, how much more strength will we have to endure with Him guiding us?
